
On Thursday, NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand emphasized the vital role of fostering partnerships between the private and public sectors to ensure long-term growth in the agricultural sector. During an event organized by the industry association Assocham, Chand underscored the necessity of exploring innovative approaches to enhance agricultural production while recognizing the diverse agricultural practices prevalent throughout the country.
Chand pointed out that the private sector can play a pivotal role in advancing precision farming in India, offering advisory services, agrochemicals, and appropriate technologies to bolster agricultural progress. He also drew attention to the noteworthy growth experienced in India’s agricultural industry, particularly in livestock and fisheries, with an annual growth rate of approximately 2.75 percent.
Moreover, NITI Aayog member Chand delved into the intricate relationship between agriculture and climate change. He noted that the primary challenge lies in augmenting productivity, which necessitates addressing concerns related to costs, technological advancements, and resource efficiency.
Chand further emphasized the predominant presence of small-scale farmers in India’s agricultural landscape and the associated challenges in achieving scalability.
